WITH Jets already qualifying for the quarter-finals of the BBL Trophy as group winners following Saturday's victory over Derby Storm, this game was meaningless.

But in terms of the players' pride there was everything to play for as Jets extended their club record winning sequence into double figures with a 10th straight victory.

Jets joined in the spirit of the season to treat their fans to a terrific display, while the club and fans also showed their generosity.

All the proceeds of the half-time shoot-out went to MFM Radio's Give a Child a Christmas campaign, with a total of £75 raised on the night.

Coach Robbie Peers said: 'This was a nothing game so we had to show mental toughness and be professional. I told the players to show our dominance and reveal no chink of weakness.'

With Tigers still battling for a place in the last eight many expected a Thames Valley backlash following the previous Sunday's National Cup semi-final defeat.

But it was Jets who raced out of the traps, almost outscoring their opponents by two to one in the first quarter alone, leading 34-18.

The party pieces were coming out from the start and John McCord sent the Northgate Arena wild with an alley-oop play from John Thomas before sinking the foul shot.

Jets looked a class apart and finished the first half with a 180-degree dunk from McCord to go in 58-32 ahead at the break.

Tigers' guard Barry Bowman lead the visitors' challenge with some pinpoint outside shooting, eventually bagging 25 points, but his team-mates were always second best.

Spectacular plays by the Jets continued to get the crowd on their feet, including a one-handed dunk from Calvin Davis following a three-man cross-court move also involving McCord and Thomas.

Jets led 79-53 at three-quarter time and with skipper James Hamilton and his regulars taking a well-earned breather in the latter stages, rookies Mark Singer and Vijay Ramburuth seized their opportunities to get themselves on the scoresheet.
