Reception and Year 1 children at Westminster Community Primary welcomed parents, governors and guests to the official opening of their new classroom.

Youngsters at the John Street, Ellesmere Port school had been involved in creating the new room and they were very proud to show it off.

Headteacher Sue Finch gave a speech before Mya Dutton and Harry Walker cut the navy blue Westminster ribbon to officially open the classroom.

Harry’s dad said: “I think the new classroom is a big improvement on the old class. It’s much brighter and welcoming.”

All of the guests were invited to a celebratory tea party in the classroom.

PCSO Eric Harwood, who attended the event, said: “The new room is excellent, bright, modern and stylish. The children will enjoy being taught in this environment.”

Chair of governors, Tracey Jones, said: “It is a great use of space, an excellent facility that will be used for a long time to come.”

Jodi Williams, a parent, added: ”What a lovely room. Excellent use of space and a fantastic new interactive, touch screen television which the kids are going to love.”

Katrina Barlow, the children’s class teacher, enjoyed helping the children to organise the opening event and to start teaching them in their new environment.

“We are very proud of this improvement to our school and are grateful for all the work that went into this from Cheshire West and Chester and construction company Krol Corlett,” she said.

“I am very proud of the children and what they have achieved to make the new classroom a quality learning environment.”
