The Panamera was always about carrying four people in some luxury and at some speed. Those qualities have been enhanced with this new second-generation model. It’s bigger in every dimension compared to the old model, which means even more room inside for front and rear passengers. And Porsche doesn’t forget the driver.
Engine choices now include a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine in the Turbo, and the 4S now has the choice of a 2.9-litre V6 petrol or a new diesel engine. Above all of these sits the GTS, which can propel four people and their luggage to 62mph in 4.5sec. A revised version of the S E-hybrid is expected at the end of 2016.
Inside there is plenty to see as the miles fly by. The driver gets new 7.0in displays, two of them, as well as a 12.3in touchscreen infotainment system that has enhanced connectivity. There will be a good list of standard kit but of course you can add options, which will include massaging seats, a panoramic roof and an even better sound system.
Outside to the rear there is a speed-connected spoiler and new LED lights. You can also specify more safety equipment such as autonomous driving which it can do for nearly two miles at a time.
Prices will be about £2500 up on the old model, which almost certainly won’t be discounted. That means a starting price of £88,700 which will get you the Panamera 4S with four-wheel drive. Deliveries are expected in November.
