WEST Cheshire College has launched a permanent Healthzone for students offering free and confidential advice and treatments to improve the health and well-being of its students.

The college has joined forces with the local primary care trust (PCT) and the Countess of Chester Hospital Foundation Trust to launch the service for under-25s.

It offers advice and treatments on relationships, contraception, stopping smoking, sexual health, pregnancy, mental health, healthy eating and anxiety and stress.

Steph Garrett, assistant manager for health and social care at the college, said: “For three years we have had a small-scale service at our Ellesmere Port and Chester campuses.

“When we opened our new college buildings we took the opportunity to extend our services and build on our previous success by offering students a more professional service.

“The service not only provides students with advice but we also have a fully functioning treatment room, which will be staffed by two specialist nurses.”

The Healthzone, located as part of the college’s Health and Wellbeing Centre on the first floor of the Ellesmere Port Campus, will be open every Monday from 9am-3pm and Wednesday 10am-3pm, with the view of increasing the number of services in the future.

Students can drop into the Healthzone or pre-book an appointment by calling 01244 656 584 on a Monday or Wednesday.
