AS MANY as 300 different computer viruses spread their way across the global networks each month according to estimates by national accountancy group Hacker Young.
Currently the most serious and debilitating virus is an official code red virus called NIMBA.
'NIMBA is causing havoc for business as it sprawls its way around the world,' says Dennis Rough from Hacker Young's Chester office.
'It infects computers by three points of attack. Firstly by way of an email attachment, secondly upon contact with an infected website and thirdly via the server, by clogging up opening ports.
'It is vital businesses protect themselves from the threat of viruses like NIMBA. They are the scourge of 21st century business. New viruses occur every day and spread at an astonishing rate.
'Keeping on top of the situation is a full time job, which is why we have our own team of experts available to monitor any possible threats and take the appropriate action.'
Hacker Young is extending this service to outside businesses offering a complete security check to ensure that systems are healthy and virus free for 12 months.
'To combat viruses, you need to be fully up to date with the latest major scares and be able to deal with them.
'Anti-virus programs and patches must be installed and monitored daily before any problems occur. This is virtually impossible without a dedicated person to do the job, which is why we have extended our service to outside organisations.
'We feel the business world should battle against computer viruses together,' adds Mr Rough.
The security check and 12 months' awareness support for virus protection from Hacker Young is £200. For details contact Dennis Rough on 01244 320532.
