WREXHAM FC owner Alex Hamilton last night said he was to meet two new would-be buyers for the troubled League One club.

And he all but ruled out selling his interests to Surrey businessman Andy Smith.

He said he is now focusing his attention on what he described as positive inquiries from the two potential buyers.

Woking- based property developer Mr Smith was the front-runner to acquire Mr Hamilton's 78% shareholding in the club and its associated property assets, including the Racecourse Stadium.

But Mr Hamilton said: "Mr Smith has not contacted me for two weeks and I have not seen any evidence he has the funding in place to complete the deal.

"I have the transfer deed in my possession and it's up to him. If he has the money he can come and take it off me, if he doesn't have the money, he can clear off.

"I do not know why he keeps stringing Wrexham supporters along but I can no longer reasonably give credence to Mr Smith's bid.

"He made me an offer which I accepted but he has not come up with the money so what else can I do?"

Mr Hamilton has also ruled out the prospect of a deal with Middlesex businessman Paul Buttivant, describing him as a "time-waster". "He talked a strong deal but came up with thin air," he added..

But Mr Hamilton insisted he was still keen to sell his interests and added: "There are two more prospective buyers on the scene and I am meeting one party tomorrow and the other on Thursday.

"Both of them are talking sound language and I'm hoping that something fruitful will come from my discussions. I am a willing, even eager, seller and both parties seem to be sensible bidders.

"I can't do any more but Wrexham FC is running out of time and dealing with people like Andy Smith has not helped."

Mr Smith was unavailable for comment.
