ELLESMERE Port people are being advised to get ‘Tweeting’ in an attempt to land a job in the new year.

Research by global recruitment consultants Harvey Nash and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) revealed a third of employers now use social networking sites to connect with potential recruits.

In a bid to boost traditional recruitment methods and reach out to a wider pool of talent, companies are looking on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Gerry McInally, manager at Ellesmere Port Jobcentre Plus, is advising people to use their Facebook profile to promote your skills and qualifications, and even post your CV in the hope that it catches the eye of a prospective employer.

He also urges people to use Twitter to keep track of companies that are actively recruiting, as a lot of job openings on posted on the site.

Mr McInally says signing up to LinkedIn is a must as it’s a business-focused social networking site, which connects to people who can help with a job search.
