Tributes have poured in for a 16-year-old boy who died after being hit by a train in Capenhurst.

School friends described the boy, who has yet to be officially named, as having lots of friends, and one Twitter user said that “he got on with everyone”.

One person tweeted: “I can’t believe that your life was taken so soon. Such a great guy, we will miss you dearly! RIP Xxx”

Another tweeted: “RIP, heartbreaking to hear the news, seemed like such a lovely lad, thoughts go out to friends and family!!”

Another wrote: “Wish today wasn’t real, RI, you were such a good friend. You will be missed by all”.

One friend wrote on Facebook: “Rest In Peace, such a lovely lad and can’t thank you enough for being such a good friend to my little bro. My Nana loved you and always asked about you so I hope you can keep each other company up in heaven! Pleasure to have known you, sleep tight Xxx.”

One Twitter user wrote: “Today our school came together in grief. To see it was both saddening and touching, and only expressed how many lives he affected. RIP.”

British Transport Police said the 16-year-old boy died after being struck by the train at Capenhurst at about 5.45pm on Monday.

A spokesman said: “We were called to Capenhurst railway station shortly before 5.45pm on Monday, 26 January, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

Cheshire Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended. A 16-year-old boy, from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The boy’s family has been informed.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
