AN 18-year-old girl bravely fought off an attacker in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The girl was walking home alone from the town centre when she was attacked near Rhosnesni Lane in Acton Park.

The attacker is believed to have followed her for a short distance before grabbing her and dragging her into the park across the road.

The girl resisted by screaming as she struggled to break free, and the attacker fled the scene.

The girl was said to have suffered minor injuries but was left shaken by the horrifying attack.

The attacker is described as white, in his 40s or 50s, of medium build with short, light-grey hair and bald on top. Police also believe he may have been injured during the incident.

DS Eleri Deverall said: 'This was a nasty attack which could have been a lot worse had it not been for the girl putting up a fight. It took place close to a residential area and we would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward and help us catch this man as soon as possible.'

However, a police spokeswoman confirmed they are not linking this incident to an indecent assault on a 16-year-old schoolgirl which occurred last week in Gresford as the youngster walked to school. Anyone with information is asked to contact Wrexham CID on (01978) 290222.
