Thousands of athletic fundraisers dashed through the streets of Ellesmere Port as this year’s Sport in the Port was held in almost perfect weather conditions.

The fun day saw runners of all ages taking part in one of three routes – the 10k, the 5k, and the one-mile route ideal for families who looked to have a fitness-themed Father’s Day.

Taking a dominant victory in the 10k race was Taurus Elly, who crossed the finish line with a time of 31:58, just under a minute clear of Martin Swensson of Penny Lane Striders in 32:57. Lee Jones of Deeside AAC was third in 33:11.

Top female in the 10k race was Faye Fullerton of Havering Mayesbrook AC in 33:58, who finished seventh overall, well clear of Kelly Crickmore (Stockport Harriers & AC), who went the distance in 36:24, and Diane McVey (Wilmslow Running Club), who was third female in 37:39.

Overall, more than 1,000 athletes completed the 10k.

In the 5k event, David Brockway (Wirral AC) was first in 16:54, pipping Dale Higham (Penny Lane Striders), who was second with 16:58 and Robert Weston, who also recorded a time of 16:58.

Top female was Carol Parsons in 18:45, while Kate Titlow (Vale Royal AC) was second with 19:29 and Lisa Gawthorne (Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton H) was third in 20:11.

Volunteers lined all the routes on the day, organised by Active Leisure events, and they were rewarded with a technical T-shirt, a drink and a goody bag.
