A DOCTOR from Neston will run the London Marathon in memory of her father.

Dr Susie Coughlan will run the 26.2-mile route on April 22 in aid of blood and lymphatic cancer charity Leukaemia CARE.

Susie’s father Chris was diagnosed with lymphoma several years ago.

She said: “My father fought this disease for eight years and I saw first hand the struggle he went through, and how it affects loved ones, as well as the patient.

“I want to support Leukaemia CARE to help all those suffering from a lymphatic cancer, and all those who will be diagnosed in the future.”

Leukaemia CARE provides support for patients and families throughout the course of the illness, including the 24-hour CARE Line.

Susie added: “My dad would have supported me 100% in this endeavour – he was always enthusiastic about sporting events and even ran for England as a young man.”

Having already completed the Ironman long-distance triathlon in Wales last year – which included a full marathon, 112 miles cycling and a 2.4-mile swim – in 14 hours, Susie is determined to put herself through another gruelling physical challenge.

Her hard work in training and determination to go that extra mile will be worth it on the day, encouraged by the knowledge every step she takes brings her closer to her target of £2,000.

To date, Susie has raised £961, one of her fundraising events being a Christmas party for 150 people.
