THE production team of a classic theatre musical has raised thousands of pounds for the Cancer Research Campaign in memory of its producer.
A total of £7,000 was handed over to the charity on Sunday after the Wizard of Oz was performed at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe in May.
George Pill wanted to produce one last show in aid of the Cancer Research Campaign after he suffered from the illness for years.
But George, from Riverbank Close, Nantwich, died on March 1 after developing pneumonia.
Close friend Cecil Walker said: 'George was diagnosed with prostate, lung, throat and mouth cancer, all of which were in remission.
'His dearest wish was to stage the Wizard of Oz at the Lyceum and raise cash for Cancer Research. His wife Erica decided the show must go on and we managed to raise the £7,000 in his memory.'
