THE town’s Labour AM Lesley Griffiths claims Wrexham council is a “big winner” with its share of a £25m “pot” to regenerate communities announced by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Ms Griffiths welcomed news the borough council is to receive £1.8m in housing renewal grants – one of the largest shares in Wales – from the Assembly Government’s £25m regeneration scheme.

The money, to be spent in renewal areas, enables councils to focus activity and investment on areas that combine a need for assistance with potential for regeneration.

Lesley Griffiths said: “Wrexham is one of the biggest winners in Wales with its share of this investment and this is to be welcomed.

“Although renewal areas exist to address mainly housing issues, this money will also be used to tackle a wider range of issues within the community.

“The Assembly Government is delivering for Wrexham as never before. Not since the Assembly was established 10 years ago have we seen these levels of investment in our town.”
