LLANGOLLEN’S annual pantomime opened yesterday in the town hall.

Aladdin, is being performed by St Collen’s Pantomime Group in January and runs until Saturday.

A new director has taken charge of the show – Lizzie Richards, 20, from Horseshoe Pass View, Llangollen, who is making her directing debut.

Lizzie, who has been in pantomime since she was eight, said: “The cast and crew have been working hard to ensure a fun-packed, lively and entertaining performance.

“As it’s my first time directing, I wanted to do a traditional, old fashioned pantomime, so that’s what Aladdin is this year.

“However, I have chosen some well-known and up-to-date songs to accompany the script. We’ve given many of the starring roles in Aladdin to the town’s younger talent.”

The title role of Aladdin is played by Anna Davies, 16, from Bryn Howel Lane, near Llangollen, while the leading lady, Princess Jasmine, will be Alex Rawlinson, 14, from Gerddi Bache, Llangollen.

The pantomime sees the return of a familiar face in the role of the dame. The Rev Mike Powell, will play Widow Twankey.

Mike from Powys , said: “I always used to be cast in the dame or comic idiot role so playing Widow Twankey will be a lot of fun.

“I wanted to return to the pantomime to support Lizzie in her directorial debut.”

Aladdin will be on at the town hall, Llangollen, tonight, tomorrow and Saturday with a matinee on Saturday. Tickets are available from Gwyn Davies Butchers, Jades Hairdressers or by calling 01978 861132.
