ORGANISERS are hoping for a bumper Poppy Appeal in Winsford this year.
Demand for the poignant red emblems is at its highest for years following the September 11 terrorist attacks in the USA, say appeal organisers.
In the wake of the horrific events and the war with Afganistan, awareness of the debt owed to Britain's war heroes is higher than it has been for years.
In Winsford, more volunteers than ever before have come forward to help with the annual Royal British Legion fundraising event.
Winsford's Poppy Appeal organiser Richard Rawlinson said: 'Response to the appeal has been fantastic this year.
'We have enough volunteers to run three-hour shifts at all the major supermarkets in the town and we will also be selling poppies in Winsford Shopping Centre.'
