Death threat ordeal for shop manager

POLICE are hunting a twisted moral crusader who has launched a hate campaign against a Chester shop and told the female manager 'We will blow your heads off'.

The harasser is objecting to sexy novelty toys being sold at Dr Herman's in Eastgate Row and is taking it out on the 20-year-old shop worker, who wishes only to be known as Sam.

He has called Sam a 'slag' to her face, sent a letter to the shop addressed to 'Dear Scum', in which he made threats to kill staff, and in phone calls has threatened to blow their heads off.

Each time Sam has been the recipient of the abuse.

She feels terrified of going to work each day but has taken the courageous step of speaking out, hoping the bully will finally get the message his behaviour is unacceptable.

Police are taking the matter seriously and making regular checks on the shop manager as well as taking strenuous efforts to trace the offender.

Sam, who feels she is being watched, said: 'It's worried me and I'm not just doing this for myself but for the other girl who works here as well.

'We are just making sure we are not going home on our own and we are not being left on our own. It's quite frustrating. He doesn't have the right to tell us what to sell.

'It's only jokey stuff, it's not hardcore or dirty. I've had posh ladies come in and buy stuff for their sons for Christmas.

'I hope he will back down and get the message that we are not going to stand somebody bullying us and that somebody out there must know who he is.'

Sam explained that problems started in the summer when a man walked into the shop and stared at the sexy novelty toys while shaking his head.

'He said 'why do you sell this stuff?' I said 'I don't know, we just do'. He said 'I will tell you why - because you're a slag'. I told him to get out or I would call the police.'

Sam thought that was the last she had heard from the man, who is quite distinctive at just 5ft 4in tall and has a Scottish accent and a goatee beard.

But a few weeks ago, a letter was sent to the Warrington head office purporting to be from trading standards, saying the shop needed a licence to sell the sexy items.

Then more recently, Sam found a letter with 'Scum' written on the envelope wedged under the shop door which demanded the goods be removed or 'we are going to kill you. We know where you live'.

It was at that point that Sam and her boss Sean Ellman contacted police. The next day Sam received a phone call in which the man demanded: 'Get rid of it or we will blow your ****ing heads off.'

Sam decided to remove the offending items but when things had quietened down she put them back only to receive another threatening phone call on Sunday.

PC Steve Baldwin of Chester police said: 'We are involved, we class it as quite serious. We are aware of the complaint and we are looking into it thoroughly as we always do.'

Anyone with information is asked to call Chester police on 01244 350222 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
