Northwich and District Heritage Society is aiming to provide something different this Christmas.

Their publication, Life At Vale Royal Great House 1907-1925, based on the memories of Mary Hopkirk (nee Dempster), includes a section called A County House Christmas.

Mary’s grandfather leased the great house, now part of Vale Royal Golf Club, for 18 years while the then owner Lord Delamere was in Kenya.

Her memoirs provide a vivid account of country house life in Edwardian England. The 16-page booklet includes 31 illustrations including interior shots of the great house as it was back then.

It is available from Vale Royal Information Centre and the Salt Museum, priced £2.50. The booklet can also be ordered from Peter Craven, Hatherlow, 45 Landswood Park, Hartford, Northwich, CW8 1NF, and add 50p for post and package and make cheques out to Northwich and District Heritage Society.
