THE spiralling cost of fuel and its impact on people in Ellesmere Port was raised in Parliament by MP Andrew Miller.

The MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston drew the attention of the House to the plight of one woman who must make essential but long journeys to hospital regularly.

Mr Miller spoke out after the Government announced plans to increase fuel duty by 3p in the new year. Other MPs argued it would hit people in rural constituencies heaviest.

But the Labour MP said: “There are also people in urban areas who are trapped by fuel prices, such as the lady who came to see me at my last surgery, who has to travel to Liverpool for medical treatment and also has to travel regularly to Bolton to see her daughter, who is in a mental health hospital. Such people need support, and some of them live in urban areas.”
