A Northwich man has been appointed as fundraising manager for the North West’s leading deafness charity, Deafness Support Network (DSN).

Rhys Edwards, who originates from Prestatyn was previously community & corporate fundraiser for St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford.

Charitable giving is in his blood as both his father and brother worked as fundraisers for major charities (British Heart Foundation and NSPCC)

Beginning with shaking collecting buckets and taking part in sponsored abseils and half marathons, he also volunteered for five years at the Royal School for the Deaf (now Seashell Trust) in Manchester.

He is currently in training for the gruelling triathlon event Ironman Wales 2016 to raise funds personally for DSN.

Rhys has been appointed to implement DSN’s fundraising plans and develop new income streams while building awareness of the charity and its work.

He says: “DSN is a fantastic charity doing great things and I am looking forward to building sustainable relationships across the region. I have now started the British Sign Language Level 1 course, which is proving to be a very enjoyable challenge.”

Operations executive for DSN Gill Reeder, says: “In the current challenging fundraising environment, Rhys’ experience, skills and enthusiasm made him the perfect candidate for this important role. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
