The husband of an ‘inspirational’ woman battling cancer has nominated her for a Your Champions award.

Scott Graves has praised his wife Helen’s courage after she received a diagnosis of grade four metastatic breast cancer on May 1.

The Backford couple, who have been married six years, are parents to three children: Freya, 10, four-year-old Harrison and Eleanor, one.

Thirty-eight-year-old Helen came up with the idea to host a cricket match in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd where she has received treatment.

With help from family and friends, the match raised a staggering £10,000 for the charity, blowing their £300 target out of the water.

Scott, a police officer, explained that the event at Christleton Cricket Club on August 30 was a way of giving back to everyone who had helped their family.

Explaining why he has nominated his partner for Champion Person of the Year, he said: “I’m massively proud of Helen. The resolve she has shown has been unbelievable.

“Her health is up and down at present. She is having weekly chemotherapy at The Christie and the care she has received is second to none.

“It is a bit of a physical and emotional rollercoaster for us all but Helen is dealing with it amazingly."

Scott added: “She is a beautifully resilient character who is determined to retain her health for as long as possible for the happiness and enjoyment of her friends, family but most of all her children.

“As a wife she is thoughtful and caring, whilst having a stubborn streak at times which bodes well for the future in battling through her journey.

“She is an inspiration to all who have the privilege to call her a friend, colleague, daughter, mummy.
