A WOMAN believed to have jumped in front a train at Bache has been taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

British Transport Police were called to Bache Railway Station next to Morrisons supermarket in Chester at 1pm today after reports of a woman in her 30s having been dragged underneath a train on the Chester-bound track.

Paramedic and fire crews attended the scene where the casualty was removed after the electrified third rail had been turned off. Trains were cancelled in both directions.

The woman was taken by ambulance the short distance to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Police have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it didn’t appear the woman, who is believed to be from Chester, had been run over but she was recovered from under the train. Her injuries and condition were unknown.

British Transport Police handed the line back to Mersey Rail at 1.40pm. Trains were running again before 2pm.

BTP spokesman Glyn Hellam said: “We have two priorities; the first is the preservation of life and the second is returning the railway as soon as possible. We do unfortunately have several incidents of this nature almost every week.”

The Chronicle understands that prior to the incident the woman had been in Morrisons ‘asking for knives’.
