Porridge, Pilates and a run up Coronation Street

David wakes me at 6am – I hate alarm clocks. From the moment I open my eyes I am thinking about breakfast.

I can do nothing until I’ve had some porridge. Our two cats Max and Paddy swirl around my feet as I go through the porridge making ritual and I always have a handful of food supplements too: cod liver oil, Glucosamine, vitamin D etc.

Mondays are our busiest day with four classes. I work very closely with my husband who is my best friend and number one right hand man. He will be busy preparing the car with equipment whilst I am putting finishing touches to class preparation.

8:30am and off we go to Bromborough Civic Centre where around 25-30 ladies will arrive ready to dance.

When we’re done, David hands me a drink and a towel. I need to pat my brow, change my vest and then we roll the mats for a more sedate and concentrated Pilates class.

Back home at noon to shower, change and then we are ready for lunch. I am so lucky – David is a marvellous cook!

We are vegetarian and he always cooks the most delicious food. We use fresh, local, organic ingredients and we rarely have the same thing twice. He’s amazing.

There’s quite a lot of back office paperwork to do in the afternoon. So we fit that in before a 20 minute nap around 4pm. Then it’s more pink lipstick and out we go for two more classes.

Weight management

At 6pm I weigh ladies at St Columba’s Church Hall and encourage and support them to lose any unwanted weight.

I absolutely love it when they hit their milestones – we do high five and punch the air, what a thrill. I am proud to say that some of my ladies have literally changed their lives with weight loss, come off medication and enjoy life so much more being fit and healthy. Two, Clare and Paula, have recently lost over 10 stone between them. I am so very proud.

We then deliver a talk on anything related to healthy eating. This week it’s ‘Are all calories the same?

Then it is another Zumba and Pilates class – more smiles, more sweat!

At 9pm, David runs a bath for me with Epsom Salts to help relieve any aches and pains.

I tend to have a very light supper with maybe a small glass of wine to help me sleep. I need at least 7-8 hours and I love my sleep.

Dress: Lycra and trainers as bright as possible. Pink is our brand colour so I always wear a pink polo shirt and hoodie with our class fitness name on.

What is the favourite part of your job? Seeing the smiles on the faces at the end of class and I know my ladies go home happy.

What is the least favourite part of your job? Working whilst injured or poorly is no fun at all. When it’s dark, wet, cold and windy and I have to turn out with a cough and a cold it’s really tough. I have to wear a happy smile all the time even when I am feeling like a grizzly bear with a sore head!

What would be your dream job if you weren’t doing what you do now? Zumba presenter alongside Beto Perez (creator of Zumba) to thousands of enthusiasts in Orlando, Florida, where they hold their annual convention. The closest I’ve got to this is at Chester County Sports Club. Once a month all the local Zumba instructors get together with Chester Bootcamp and we have a massive Zumba blast! It’s fantastic! The next one is on July 4.

How do you relax when you are not working? Visiting family, date night with David at the theatre. I am watching ’24’ on Netflix at the moment, love it.

What is your favourite film? Forest Gump.

What is your favourite book? Jane Eyre.

What is your favourite song? We Have All The Time in the World – Louis Armstrong.

If a film was made of your life, who would you like to play you? Jane Fonda.

Have you had your 15 minutes of fame yet? I was interviewed on Granada TV running up Coronation Street for charity. I did the warm up for Race for Life in Chester in 2014. There were 3,000 ladies all dancing with me – totally superb. And I have run the London Marathon three times.
