Visit Northwich has announced the eighth winner of its competition for budding photographers in the area.

Since December 2015, Visit Northwich has been on the lookout for photos of the town and surrounding areas to help show off the buildings, wildlife and environments in the area.

The competition is held once a month and each winning picture will feature in the 2017 Visit Northwich calendar, which goes on sale at the end of the year.

Despite a number of entries including shots capturing the town’s waterways including the Trent and Mersey Canal and River Weaver and some capturing the area’s heritage and history, Adam Holland’s image of the Northwich Memorial Court emerged victorious and was announced the winner of the August competition.

Judges described the photograph as “very atmospheric” and said the clarity was “amazing” despite it being captured at night.

Northwich BID Officer Mark Henshaw, said: “I’ve seen a great range of photos over the last few months as part of the competition but this one really made me stand up and take notice as it’s very unique.

“I think the fact it was taken at night adds to the mystery and atmosphere and the building itself looks crystal clear too, the framing is just right.

“I can’t wait to see it in the calendar at the end of the year alongside all of our amazing winners’ photographs so far.”

Mr Henshaw added how he has been “counting down the days” until Northwich's Christmas extravaganza this year, which will see the town being transformed into a winter wonderland again.

Plans have been gathering pace since the summer for the Christmas extravaganza and for the first time ever it has been announced a family of reindeers and penguins will be at the event, along with a number of family-friendly activities including a lantern parade, a firework display, Santa’s grotto and a few surprises for visitors.

“When you look at the amount of activities lined up and some of the new attractions coming to Northwich this Christmas, you can’t help but feel excited,” Mr Henshaw added.

“Last year’s event was great but I feel with additions such as the penguins, reindeers and Christmas crazy golf, 2016’s offering is going to go one better.”
