HELSBY is preparing for a right royal party as the village celebrates the Diamond Jubilee in style.

On Saturday hundreds of people are expected to parade through the village waving patriotic flags as the village celebrates 60 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

At noon infants, children, pensioners and councillors will join together at Helsby High School as vintage cars, cheerleaders and a zumba band lead the crowds as they wind through the village.

Anyone can join in with the procession, which will include a fancy dress and best dressed buggy competition and a VIP coach, as it passes the Robin Hood Lane at 1pm, before arriving at the Community Sports Club at 2pm, when VIP guests will kick-start the festivities.

The celebrations will see children enjoying tucking into burgers and hot dogs, enjoying the thrill of the funfair, performances by Helsby High School and Helsby Hillside bands, cheerleading displays, dog shows and a tug of war.

There will also be real ales, beer and wine, refreshment stalls and face-painting.

Residents are also being urged to dress their homes, businesses and shops in Union Jacks between May 31 and June 2 as the village competes for the best dressed house award.
