THIEVES are roaming streets and car parks breaking into cars and stealing handbags and even schoolbags left inside.

Police are warning motorists not to leave handbags, phones and sat navs on display in their cars after a spate of break ins across Hoole and Upton.

On Tuesday, five parked cars were targeted by opportunist thieves who smashed windows and windscreens to steal items which had been left inside.

Four of the thefts happened between 4 and 7.30pm with one car, which was left on Pipers Lane being left with a smashed window after thieves broke into the car to steal a school bag which had been left on a seat.

On Oakfield Drive thieves smashed the rear windscreen of a car before stealing a laptop and a handbag from the rear foot well.

At Flag Lane North a rear windscreen was smashed but nothing was stolen.

And the thieves targeted Total Fitness car park on Liverpool Road smashing a window before stealing a handbag and coat from the foot well.

Later that night, between 9.35 and 11.40pm a car was broken into on Meadows Lane and a rear window was smashed.

PC Mark Evans from Chester Outer Policing team said “The above would tend to suggest that the offenders are roaming the area looking for suitable targets that can be hit quickly and then make off.”
