A Northwich holiday company is sponsoring an annual swimathon in the town to raise money for charitable causes.

Headwater Holidays is backing the Rotary Club of Northwich 16th annual challenge in March at the Memorial Court Pool.

Chair of the swimathon committee Garnet Ronander said: “In addition to raising a great deal of money for local charities our experience is that those who take part really enjoy it and we have many teams who come back each year.

“We are particularly grateful to the support we have received from our new sponsor Headwater Holidays”.

The event is for swimmers of all ages and abilities and the aim is to attract about 300 individuals to take part.

Businesses, organisations and individuals are invited to put in teams of up to six swimmers for the 2016 event , which will be held on Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13, between 5-9pm.

Each team has a 55 minute slot with team members taking it in turns to swim a length each.

Light refreshments are provided for all swimmers after their swim and each is given a team photograph, a certificate showing the number of lengths swum by the team and a swim bag memento of the event.

The Rotary Club of Northwich has run the event for 15 years and so far has raised more than £120,000 for local charities.

The named charities for 2016 are Macmillan Cancer Support (Mid Cheshire) and Alzheimers Society (Cheshire West and Chester).

However, this year, and for the first time and in addition to the named charities, teams have the opportunity to nominate their own charity to receive half the sum raised by the team.

Teams are invited to express their interest in entering the event by emailing swimathon.rcnorthwich@gmail.com.
