A rare Black Moon is due to appear in the skies over the region this weekend.

The spectacular occurrence will turn the sky across Chester and North Wales pitch black and refers to the second new moon in a calendar month.

The event will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning at 1.11am, but unfortunately you won't be able to see because it will be so dark.

Although there's not much to see stargazers can still get excited about the unusual lunar event.

Joe Rao from Space.com said: "A second full moon in a single calendar month is sometimes called a blue moon.

"A black moon is supposedly the flip side of a blue moon - the second new moon in a single calendar month."

Stargazers across Chester and North Wales have been treated to Harvest Moon this month.

The Harvest Moon was the last full moon of the summer and lit up the sky and the next Black Moon isn't expected till 2019.
