Police are searching for a man who wore a clown mask and jumped out at a young woman underneath a bridge in Ellesmere Port.
An 18-year-old woman was walking under the Westminster Bridge during the early hours of Wednesday, October 12, when a man jumped out and scared her.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence following the incident, but was later eliminated from police enquiries.
Cheshire Police has confirmed they are still looking for the man responsible for the incident.
The force has been inundated with 'creepy clown' sightings across the county in the build-up to Halloween, with sightings reported in both Chester and Ellesmere Port.
People have been copying the bizarre craze which emerged in America but is now taking hold in the UK by donning clown costumes and frightening members of the public.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Following an investigation into a man wearing a clown mask and jumping out at an 18-year-old woman in the early hours of 12 October (Wednesday) under Westminster Bridge, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.
“The man was later eliminated from their enquiries.”
