A FIRE which engulfed a timber framed building on Saturday afternoon could have been started by arsonists.
Police at Northwich are appealing for information and are keen to trace two youths. The fire broke out at around
4.30pm in an empty building formerly owned by Moore and Brock, builders merchants, at Baron's Quay, causing severe damage to the first floor.
Emergency services were bombarded with calls and the road was closed for three hours for the operation to go ahead.
The fire was prevented from spreading to nearby listed buildings thanks to the actions of two teams of firefighters.
'It was particularly fierce. We managed to bring it under control very quickly,' said leading firefighter Brian Cadwallader.
Anyone with information about the fire or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Saturday afternoon is asked to call Northwich Police on 01606 48000 and speak to PC Rupert Venables.
