Smell not due to atmospheric conditions

Airline says smell in the cockpit was not due to a ‘strange burning’ odour in the atmosphere which has been reported across the country. An investigation is underway to find out the cause.

Odour smelt in cockpit sparked 'emergency'

‘Emergency’ this morning caused by unusual smell in the cockpit

An Eastern Airways spokesperson, said: “The captain operating this morning’s EZE1762 charter flight from Bristol to Chester was met by the airport fire service on arrival into Hawarden following reports of an unusual odour in the cockpit.

“The aircraft landed safely at 9.35am.

“As a precautionary measure, the eight passengers and three crew on board the Jetstream 41 evacuated the aircraft, once the aircraft had stopped and the engines had been shut down.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority and will not be compromised.”

Emergecny reason unclear

Two people checked over at the scene

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at shortly before 9.40am this morning to Hawarden Airport in Flintshire.

“Two crews in emergency ambulances and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle attended and two patients were checked over at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say the incident, which was dealt with by the airport’s fire service, was under control by 10.02am. NWFRS remained on standby - but took no action. Statement to follow about the incident.

2. Hawarden Airport. Hawarden is home to its very own airport. Aviation Park Group (APG) operates provide handling and related services. In 2012 it was announced that the airport would begin operating public passenger flights. Hawarden Airfield was originally established in September 1939 and was one of the main RAF airfields during the Battle of Britain.

North Wales Police say they were called at 9.39am but were not required as the plane had “landed safely”.

The aircraft involved was apparently a BAe Jetstream 41 which had taken off from Bristol at 8.56am.

Emergency at Hawarden Airport
