A CHRISTMAS initiative – targeting domestic abuse – has been launched and will run until January 6.
The campaign will see officers visit known vulnerable survivors of previous or ongoing domestic abuse, to provide reassurance and advice.
Officers will also be equipped with information relating to known prolific offenders and will encourage and support positive action when an identified offender has committed further criminal acts.
Other activities will see the deployment of a specialist domestic violence enforcement vehicle, prioritisation of domestic abuse cases by custody investigation units, further use of the Crown Prosecution Service’s domestic violence advocate and enhanced support for survivors through the use of the Domestic Abuse Family Safety Unit and the Cheshire Outreach Service.
Sgt Nigel Reid, of Western Area Public Protection Unit, said: “The campaign comes as a result of previous initiatives and research which shows there is a significant increase in domestic abuse incidents over the Christmas period.’’
If you are a survivor of, or have witnessed domestic abuse, contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
