A LEGENDARY band helped hotel staff and visitors celebrate a successful month.
The Drifters played a stellar set at the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa, Tarporley, on Friday just days after the hotel found out it had secured four AA stars.
The AA also handed executive head chef Richard Clark and his kitchen team two rosettes last month for the standard of the cuisine served in the venue’s Ranulf Restaurant.
The band was booked long before the awards but the timing suited all at the hotel perfectly.
The four-piece, once fronted by Johnny Moore and Ben E King, played through their back catalogue including Saturday Night at the Movies, Under the Boardwalk and You’re More Than a Number in My Little Red Book.
The gig was fixed up by John Newton, now the academy director at the golf resort, who met The Drifters while working as security in the 1980 Miss World competition. A friendship formed and resulted in last weekend’s concert.
Mr Newton said: “They are the best live act I’ve ever seen.”
