The pre-school children at the Spinney Day Nursery in Hoole enjoyed pretending to be doctors for the day when two medical professionals paid them a visit.

Dr Nicola Maeme and Dr Matthew Maeme, parents of two of the nursery’s children, chose to visit the youngsters during the junior doctors’ strike.

They told the children what a doctor does and what equipment they use to help people who are poorly.

"They enjoyed putting bandages on eachother"

The children loved using the stethoscope to listen to each other’s heartbeat and using the otoscope to look in their ears. They also enjoyed putting bandages on each other and pretending to give medicine to the teddy bears and dolls.

Officer-in-charge of the Spinney Day Nursery Hoole, Kate Carter, said: “One of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) topics we often cover is ‘people who help us’ so it’s always lovely to have people who work in a job where they help others and keep us all safe visit the nursery.

“It was fantastic to have parents who are doctors pop in to talk to the children and in the community to show them some of their medical equipment and tell them about what they do.

“We would like to say a big thank you to them both for taking the time to come and see us and also to all medical professionals for all the hard work they do.”
