A group of energetic school friends is attempting to pull an ‘all-nighter’ in aid of Claire House Hospice on Friday.
The classmates from Guilden Sutton Primary School will stage a sleepover with a difference when they get together this week and have vowed to stay awake until the sun rises on Saturday.
Best buddies Lucy Cheng, Alice Bailey, Olivia Vickers, Alice Roberts, Amy Doherty, Emma Powell and Charlotte Pridding decided to help the hospice after Charlotte’s mother Kate told them all about the charity, which has been officially adopted by her employer’s Humphreys of Chester.
Charlotte, of Guilden Sutton, said: “The challenge is all about staying up, having fun, watching our favourite films, making a den and doing something awesome for Claire House!
“We are staying awake to raise money, so that families with poorly children get a good sleep.”
The Claire House All Nighter is a brand new initiative from the charity which asks supporters to get sponsored and stay up all night on Friday, June 19.
Claire House provides care, support and choice to hundreds of families from Chester and the surrounding areas, whose children won’t live to be adults. The hospice relies heavily on funding from the public, with 80% of its funding coming through voluntary donations.
Mark Pearson, event fundraiser at Claire House Children’s Hospice, said: “A solid eight hours sleep is something many of us take for granted but for families with seriously ill children, it’s an incredibly rare thing.
“When their children come to Claire House, not only do the kids have fun, the parents and carers get the chance to relax and enjoy their first full night’s sleep in months, if not years. We’re encouraging as many people as possible to sacrifice just one night’s sleep so a family in desperate need of a rest, can get one.”
