Girls from The Queen’s School heard how the sky was the limit at their annual prize-giving ceremony.

Fighter pilot Jo Salter MBA spoke to pupils at the annual cathedral service about her experiences as the first ever British female Tornado pilot.

Girls and their parents heard stories of how she had met some very specific challenges to achieve her goal and she described with obvious excitement the exhilaration of flying a £25 million plane only metres from the ground.

Jo has since retired from active duty but is still involved in the training of new pilots and she had some wise words of advice for the youngsters.

The annual prize-giving was a chance for Queen’s families to gather to celebrate the girls’ achievements.

Prizes were awarded to girls from Years 7-13 across all subjects and parents also heard speeches from the chairwoman of governors, Marion Ardron, and headmistress Sarah Clark who spoke about the school’s ability to ensure that every girl reached her potential.

Mrs Clark said: “Jo gave an absolutely fascinating talk to us all.

“It was very interesting to hear how she had never set out to break any glass ceilings or trail-blaze but simply followed her dream and approached every opportunity with a ‘why not’ attitude and every challenge with a pragmatic ‘can do’ one.

“I can’t think of a better message for our girls to hear!”
