FOOTBALL fever raged through the University of Chester on Saturday as students took on local residents for the annual Sports Day.

Organised by the Garden Quarter Residents’ Association, with the University of Chester Students’ Union, the event included a tournament of mixed six-a-side matches on the university’s pitch.

Teams included the university’s women’s team, Bouverie FC, Bridge Foyer, Golden Balls, Cambrian Crew; Cambrian Road All Stars, Theatre in the Quarter and Real Ale FC.

Golden Balls defeated Cambrian Crew in the final 4-0 with all four goals set up by sports and exercise sciences student Jodie Goodall.

This was the first time the team of friends had played together.

Children’s activities in the sports hall included face-painting, parachute games and bean bag races which were sponsored by the university and SureStart.

Laura Pearsons, general manager of Chester Students’ Union, said: “The day was a huge success, with a healthy dose of competition and the local community coming together for a fantastic day of sport.”
