Police have disclosed the name of a 29-year-old man found dead by caves in Frodsham.

An investigation was launched to identify the deceased after his body was discovered at lunchtime on Friday, October 10 close to Manley Road.

Cheshire police said at the time it appeared the body “had been there for some time”.

In a statement released today (Thursday), police spokesman George Perfitt said: “Formal identification has now taken place on the body of a man found in Frodsham on 10 October 2014. The deceased has been identified as Peter McDonnell, 29 years, of Runcorn. Next of kin have been informed.

“A cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but there are no suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

Witnesses reported seeing the police underwater search and marine unit lorry at the scene, whose officers may be called in to recover bodies from land or property deemed too hazardous for officers at the scene or undertakers to recover.

The incident has attracted concerned comment on social media sites.

Katie Loulou Jones said on the Chronicle Facebook page: “RIP Peter, gone but not forgotten can’t believe you have gone so quick.”
