A WOMAN had done her best to comfort her friend when she told her that her brother had been killed in a road accident, a court heard.

Gemma Bennion, 29, had being helping the young woman she had previously been a bridesmaid for and helped her through the grieving process.

But at a party in July, Bennion found out it was all a lie.

Bennion, a mother of two, was so shocked and distressed she left the party and decided to drive home.

But on the way she struck a road sign, the police were called, and she was found to be twice the drink drive limit.

Bennion, of Dalton Close in Blacon, Chester, admitted driving with 215 miligrammes of alcohol in her urine - compared to the legal limit of 107.

Flintshire magistrates heard she was an asthmatic and had been unable to provide a breath test at the police station.

She was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Bethan Jones, defending, said: “For some reason the friend had taken advantage of her good nature, and that of her family,” said Miss Jones. “She walked out of the party in total shock.”

Bennion had children aged two and four and was in the process of setting up her own company online because she was talented in the art of crocheting.
