A campaign to tackle fly-tipping in an area of Ellesmere Port has reached its enforcement phase.

Officers from Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Streetscene and Localities teams have been visiting houses door-to-door in the Fields area, confirming waste collection arrangements and handing out information leaflets. Signage is also in place to remind offenders that fly-tipping is a crime.

Now the campaign will turn up the heat on thoughtless individuals and anyone caught fly-tipping in the area will be issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 which, if left unpaid, could result in a court appearance and a fine of up to £50,000 or a 12 month prison sentence.

The council’s Cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Karen Shore, said: “Residents in the area have been very supportive of the campaign and simply won’t stand for the irresponsible behaviour of just a few people any more.

“The next phase of the campaign is a clamp down on enforcement and council officers will be out and about in force issuing on the spot fines to anyone caught fly-tipping.

“However, our officers can’t be everywhere and we really need help from residents to identify offenders. Please help your community and council take a stand against fly-tipping; tell us, in confidence as much information as you can about any incidents.”

Report anyone who is fly-tipping, in confidence, by calling 0300 123 7026.

The council’s Street Care Pledge sets out a shared commitment with local residents to maintain clean and attractive streets.

If you spot an environmental problem, like fly-tipping, dog fouling or littering, in your area please use the Your Streets website to report it: www.westcheshireyourstreets.co.uk.

The website aims to make reporting problems easier and provide useful information about the range of services the council provides in communities across the borough.
