GARDENERS at Eaton Hall are in full bloom for the Duke of Westminster’s birthday celebrations later this year.

The estate’s talented horticultural team created a garden for last week’s RHS show as a present for the duke, who turns 60 in December.

Painting with Plants was inspired by the work of French artist Henri Matisse and contains bold colours, smooth lines and a Tahitian hut.

The 14-strong team, led by Jan Lomas and Nicola Sweeting, won silver-gilt for their efforts.

The Duchess of Gloucester paid a visit to the show earlier in the week, when she was shown around by Tatton Park head gardener Sam Youd. This year was the final show for Sam, as he plans to retire next March.
