A motorist has told of the moment he witnessed a near head-on collision on the England/Wales border on Sealand Road.

A dashcam on Bob James’ car shows a motorist hedging their bets by overtaking and narrowly missing an oncoming car on the A458.

The oncoming motorist flashes their lights at the overtaking driver in an attempt to avoid a crash as the driver swerves back in.

The footage then shows the driver slamming on their brakes to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front as the car nears the Texaco petrol station.

Mr James, 65, from Garden City, who posted the video on his Facebook page, said: “I was driving at 50mph on Sealand Road, by Dandy’s topsoil store. It was dark and raining and the road has no streetlights.

“A car overtook me and cut in sharply.”

The retired electrical contractor said he believes the collision was only avoided by the oncoming driver braking sharply.

He added: “I was shocked. If the fellow overtaking me had been half a second later we all could have been killed.”

“I wanted to get his number plate, but I couldn’t catch him up because he was going so fast.”

The incident happened shortly before 7pm on March 1 as Mr James was making his way to the Aldi supermarket in Chester.
