A crash between a lorry and a car is causing delays on the M56.

The collision happened westbound between junctions 12 at Runcorn and 14 for Hapsford at about 4pm on Tuesday (August 9).

A Cheshire police spokesman said there were believed to be 'injuries', but was unable to confirm how serious they were at this stage.

Queues have built up in both directions after the incident, eastbound the tailback stretches beyond J15 which is the exchange with the M53.

Both vehicles have been moved over to the hard shoulder so no lanes of the carriageway are closed.

Highways England were on the scene dealing with the incident, they say the traffic will be cleared by 19.30pm.

There were long delays for drivers heading home after a crash on the same M56 stretch last Friday.
