The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Charitable Funds was presented with an Aviva Community Fund Award to run the Care of the Elderly project for the benefit of patients and their families on wards 34 and 43.
Rugby world cup winner and Aviva Community Fund Ambassador Will Greenwood presented the awards at the Honourable Artillery Company in London.
Sylvia Pollock of Griffiths and Armour, the insurance brokers who supported the application to the Aviva Community Fund 2015, said: “The Countess charity raises funds each year to enhance and improve facilities for the benefit of patients. The hospital’s specialist dementia nurse is leading on dementia care in the region and this invaluable project for elderly patients forms a part of this ground-breaking work.”
The funding will be used for a year-long project using the interactive My Life Dementia Reminiscence Therapy software programme which supports the facilitation of greater patient interaction, engagement and participation while they are in hospital.
This will take the form of life story work and one to one and group work between patient and carer. It will also help support longer and more meaningful hospital visits for patients and their families.
Trust and legacy fundraiser at the Countess, Ngozi Ikoku, said: “Thank you to everyone who supported us by voting for our project earlier this year. Receiving the award has been a fantastic community achievement and together we hope to make a real difference to the experience of our patients affected by dementia and those who care for them.”
The Countess Care of the Elderly project will be launching shortly at the hospital and will be delivered by a team of trained volunteers.
