Maintenance work to the Hoole Bridge will leave commuters facing more than two weeks of delays on their way to work.

Network Rail have warned Cestrians to expect delays as they conduct ‘essential’ repairs to the bridge on Hoole Road, which will include repainting it to protect it from the elements and future damage.

A full road closure will be in place between 7pm on Friday, March 21 until 6pm on Monday, March 24 to allow for scaffolding to be set up to carry out the work and the road will then become one way into the city until 5am on Tuesday, April 8 when the road reopens upon completion of the work.

Making use of the road closure, Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) will be carrying out resurfacing work to the Brook Street Junction, drainage work and the replacement of a street light, all of  which will take place during the full road closure.

Signed diversion routes will be outlined on the A51 Boughton and the A5116 Liverpool Road.

During the one lane closure out of the city, Stagecoach will be running their number 53 bus service down Liverpool Road, Brook Lane and into Newton Lane.

Arriva’s 21 Runcorn service and X30 Warrington service will also use Liverpool Road, into Brook Lane, then Newton Lane and left onto Hoole Road.

Pedestrians will be able to use Hoole Bridge for the whole works period.

CWaC engineers are also hoping further resurfacing work can be carried out on by Canadian Avenue on Hoole Road on April 5 and 6.

The bridge will be closed when Network Rail removes traffic management on April 7 but Hoole Bridge will be open to two- way traffic as normal on April 8.
