A STUDENT from Farndon has survived the scoffs of Jeremy Paxman to propel his Oxford team into the semi-finals of University Challenge.
In the quarter final match between Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and the University of Exeter, aired on Monday (January 26) night, James Marsden, from Farndon helped clinch victory for the college.
But he had to suffer the condescending laugh of the host when he answered one question incorrectly.
James is reading Ancient and Modern History at Corpus Christi College, Oxford after graduating from the Kings School, Chester in 2006.
Corpus Christi embarrassed their opponents with a 350-15 trouncing, hot on the heels of their 295-85 defeat of Edinburgh in the last round.
James’ team now look like favourites to win the competiton and even received praise from the uncompromising Paxman who congratulated the victors, commending “another fantastic score” by “a very strong team”.
