LOCAL runners were part of the 35,000 strong field that pounded the streets of the capital on Sunday for this year’s London Marathon.

Four City of Chester Triathlon Club members completed the gruelling 26-mile course in sub-three hours times.

In sunny conditions, Vince van Woerkom came home in two hours, 45 minutes and 48 seconds followed by Chris Prior (2.49:51), Martin Wilcock (2.54:12) and Richard Webster (2.54:13).

Jan Rogers (3.28:03), Susan Fourie (3.28:43), Clare Page (3.25:32), Chris Hulse (3.24:38), Magnus Walker (3.46:31), Elaine Eatwell (4.55:13) and – completing her first and last marathon – Diane Duret (5.21:30) followed up.

Neil McIntyre (3.33:04) was the first of five West Cheshire AC members home.

Tom Kennedy (3.39:00), Lisa Davies (3.45:10), Brian Beattie (3.54:05) and Bob Benson (4.01:00) completed the club’s set, with Chris Rhodes unable to finish the race after suffering a fall eight miles in.

Martin Hilton (3.55:08) ran a personal best time for Tattenhall Runners, who were also represented by Mel Barker (4.09:09), debutant Adele Curran (4.31:38) and Amanda Davies (4.33:12).
