A mum of two from Chester was watched by millions as she spent her five minutes of fame impersonating rapper extraordinaire Honey G on The X Factor on Saturday night (October 15).
Shelley MacIntosh was one of 10 so-called ‘Mummy Gs’ chosen to don the fan favourite’s signature baseball cap and sunglasses look for a segment on the hit talent show and its ITV2 spin-off The Xtra Factor.
The Arches Community Primary School teaching assistant came to the attention of X Factor producers thanks to a video posted on Twitter of her rapping as Honey G during an assembly, after a pupil noticed similarities between the pair.
Shelley said she was ‘so nervous’ ahead of her star turn but her kids – 10-year-old Oscar and Ruby, 12 – were ‘giddy’ with excitement at seeing their mum on TV.
Of course, Shelley had to grab a picture with the woman herself, and said Honey G and her fellow acts were ‘so friendly’.
“It was great to see behind the scenes of such a busy studio watching the camera crew lightings technicians and floor managers in action,” said Shelley.
“It was very surreal and I remember just laughing thinking what an earth am I doing?
“Family, friends and staff all watched the show and were howling with laughter – they all think I’m a bit bonkers.
“I was game for a laugh and did it to make my kids and the Arches Primary children smile.”
