Fast food giant KFC has announced its new Chester Drive Thru will open on Monday, August 24.

Construction work is ongoing to create the Sealand Road unit as the recruitment drive continues to complete the 60-strong team who will staff the city’s second KFC.

Forty of the posts will be new appointments and 20 are people already employed by KFC.

Interest in the jobs has been significant with more than 400 job applications received and 30 new team members hired so far.

The restaurant will have a seating capacity of 110 with a choice of indoor and outdoor seating areas.

What the new Chester KFC Drive Thru will look like based on a similar pod elsewhere

The KFC website reveals Stuart Gall, who already runs the KFC city centre outlet in Foregate Street, has the contract to run the new out-of-town franchise.

The latest unit will front Sealand Road on what was part of the car park serving Next and the disused exterior of a former garden centre.

Land owners Standard Life UK Retail Park Trust Ltd gained planning consent for the 278 sq metres unit last November.

During the application process, a few residents raised concerns about the risk of increased traffic, noise, smells, litter and anti-social behaviour. However, conditions include the restaurant being closed overnight, with opening hours limited to 7am-11pm week days and 8am-11pm at weekends.

The victorious applicants argue the new ‘pod’ will improve the presence of the retail park and provide ‘another drive-thru’ restaurant – existing outlets are McDonald’s and Costa.
