FIREFIGHTERS visited Chester FC on Monday to offer football fans road safety advice ahead of the Blues’ Cheshire derby clash with Nantwich.
And it proved the perfect day to raise awareness as 3,560 supporters descended on the Exacta Stadium – a record for the reborn club.
Crews from green watch at Chester Fire Station, who took along two fire engines and the hydraulic platform, gave fans advice about driving safely in winter conditions as well as the dangers of drink-driving.
There was also an announcement at half-time in the match, which ended 1-1, to reinforce the ‘don't drink and drive’ message.
Watch manager Richie Gerrard said: “We’re grateful to the club for allowing us to spend time at the stadium.
“This is the first time we’ve worked with the club, which shares our aim of making Chester a safer place to live and work, and we very much look forward to developing this partnership further.”
A similar partnership has already been formed between Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Warrington Wolves, which sees firefighters regularly attend their home matches to promote safety messages.
A fire cadet unit has also been established at the rugby club.
