Police are investigating an incident in which a man was found with head injuries after it is believed he may have fallen from the City Walls in Chester.

The incident happened overnight adjacent to the side of the Chester Grosvenor hotel with the injured man rumoured to have suffered a fractured skull.

Hotel staff turning up early for work this morning spotted plain clothes, uniformed and community support officers combing the area for clues.

A section of walls close to the incident was closed with police tape from about 8am for a period. There appears to be a patch of blood on the ground.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Cheshire police are investigating an incident on Chester City Walls near to the Eastgate Clock where a male was found with head injuries.

“At present the circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear and enquiries are ongoing.”

North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman Sarah Morley confirmed a 999 call was received at 4.22am about a male having fallen from the walls.

He was taken by a North Wales ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a high priority case.

The patient was unconscious but his breathing was normal.
